In high school, a family friend gave me a job as a barista. A nearby college tucked inside a sleepy Washington State town rested miles away. I used to go every day after school and make good tips from college girls who thought I was cute. I haven’t had a job as fun since, and I love coffee. But more than coffee, it’s where I read books by Raymond Carver (my favorite writer). Carver’s short stories were so simple yet packed with emotion and well-told stories. The Cathedral is a masterpiece. What We Talk About When We Talk About Love is such a great short story. Carver’s work made me fall in love with writing.
So, what’s with the 82? I served three years in the 82nd Airborne Division.
Here, I post short stories. However, any short story posted on this site isn’t published on Amazon. I do share the short stories that I post on Amazon, which I pay to have professionally edited, in pinned posts.
Engaging in a constructive dialogue with people who love to write would also make me a better writer, which is my goal. Likes on social media are nice, but constructive (respectful) criticism is priceless.
