An Engagement Ring (It’s Not For You)

“I’m not strong enough to lose you again,” I said, waving my hands. “I can’t do it again.”

“You’ll have to be.”

I grabbed Jenny’s shoulders and kissed her.

She pushed my away.

“Don’t you see I can’t live without you?”

“You’ll have to try.”

“Just forgive me.”

“How many times am I supposed to forgive you?” Jenny said.

“It wasn’t what you think.” I raked my fingers through my thick black hair. “It wasn’t what it looked like.”

“Who was she this time? Another secretary?”

“Who then?”

“She was helping me pick out your engagement ring.”

“A what ring?”

“An engagement ring, silly.”

“Thank you. Thank You. Thank you.

I place my hands in front of my body. “I didn’t say it was for you.”
