The clanking of crystal,
rattling chandeliers in the distance,
tracing circles with dark shadows,
reaching into the glovebox,
pulling out a swift orderly change of heart,
drowning out the thought of what’s inside his soul.
Fear crawls from his heart to his brain and back again.
The taillights fade down the dusty road.
Bombs in the heavens engulf themselves in her envy,
settling beneath his feet as she returns her words.
Her lips touch his
as if a soldier
returning from war
a far off distant land
her embrace ends with a sigh
a peaceful sigh.
The clouds part ways
and her soul brightens what’s left of her fury.
